What is an AACE Key Contact?

An AACE Key Contact is an advocate that serves as an AACE liaison with their Member of Congress. Advocates are given the necessary tools to become effective key contacts.
Suggested Duties to Become an Effective Key Contact:
  • Meet with your Members of Congress and staff, either in their local district office or in Washington, D.C., at least once a year to introduce yourself and maintain a relationship.
  • Take action in response to AACE Legislative Alerts that you receive and contact your Member of Congress. Report feedback you obtain to AACE staff.
  • Follow up on the issues addressed during meetings, letters, and telephone conversations with your legislator.
  • Offer your help and become a resource for your Member of Congress and staff, especially on healthcare policy. You are the expert on endocrine diseases and disorders, and your Member of Congress will value your input.
  • Support your legislator in his or her election campaign by volunteering your time to participate in campaign activities, as well as consider making financial contributions to the campaign. You will be demonstrating your support not only for the candidate, but also for issues that are important to both of you. Remember: The relationship between you and your Member of Congress is a two-way street; you should expect to give something in return.
  • Cultivate the relationship by doing all of the above on a regular basis and keeping your Member of Congress continually informed about issues that directly affect you and your patients.
